During the 2021 Dubai Airshow, Airbus unveiled an array of products, cutting-edge technologies, services, and innovations. These advancements are instrumental in charting a course towards a sustainable future for the aerospace industry. Airbus recorded 408 orders and commitments, including 269 confirmed orders and 139 commitment contracts.

Airbus underscored its crucial role in driving the recovery of the industry while strengthening relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners. The event also served as an opportunity for Airbus to showcase its ongoing commitment to pioneering sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world. By connecting people, cultures, and businesses, Airbus contributes to the global economy.

Airbus recently revealed that they want to make the first commercial aircraft in the world with zero emissions by 2035, and they showed off a prototype of their ZEROe concept plane. Airbus also said they want to be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge and eco-friendly solutions for urban air travel, using partnerships and technologies to launch a product by 2025.

Airbus showcased a range of commercial aircraft, including the A350-900 MSN 2 (Airspace Explorer), Ethiopian Airlines’ A350-900,Uganda Airlines’ A330neo, Air Arabia’s A321LR, WizzAir’s A321LR and AirBaltic’s A220. Also making an appearance is Acropolis Aviation’s ACJ320neo aircraft.

The Dubai Airshow just gave a big boost to Airbus, with Wizz Air, Frontier, Volaris, JetSMART, from the Indigo Partners’ portfolio, all placing firm orders for 255 more A321neos under a joint venture. Indigo Partners is a Phoenix, Arizona-based private equity fund that invests in air transportation around the world.

The ACJ TwoTwenty was the luxurious showstopper from Airbus Corporate Jets, packed with all the latest tech for business travellers, like better connectivity, Wi-Fi throughout the plane, and some really cool features like electro-chromed windows and LED lighting.

The ACJ TwoTwenty will boast a spacious floor area of 73m2 /785 ft2, making it the only business aircraft to feature six spacious VIP living areas capable of accommodating up to 19 occupants.

The ACJ 2200 will have a longer range, so it can go as far as 5,650 miles (10,500 kilometers) over 12 hours, which will be great for connecting cities like London, LA, Moscow, Jakarta, Tokyo, Dubai, Beijing, and Melbourne. This will be great for the whole A220 programme.

Benoit Defforge, ACJ President said: “ACJ remains committed to growing and supporting the regional business aviation sector which has shown great resilience during the pandemic. In the Middle East region, more than 60% of heavy jets and bizliners are more than 15 years old. As such, we are now offering the latest and most modern, comfortable product portfolio jet available today from the ACJ TwoTwenty up to the ACJ350 that both align well with customers’ fleets from the Middle East and we look forward to demonstrating our innovation and latest offerings at Dubai Airshow 2021.”

Ali Ahmed Alnaqbi, Chairman of the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and Founder and Executive Chairman at MEBAA (Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association), said: “The business aviation industry proved to be resilient, safe, and efficient, despite the pandemic. We have already witnessed an increased demand for business jets in recent years, and we look forward to witnessing further successes in this promising industry. I am pleased to say that we have been successful in implementing the required measures in line with the best global standards to enhance the industry and accelerate its growth in the region and the world in the upcoming years.”

Despite the difficulties posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the private and business aviation industry experienced a surge in activity, especially in Dubai, where private and business jet movements from Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub increased by 336 percent in the first three months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. Additionally, Dubai-based commercial aviation company DC Aviation Al.Futtaim (DCAF) saw a 25 percent rise in private and commercial jet activity during the same period.

31st annual Honeywell Global Business Aviation Outlook forecasts up to 8,500 new business jet deliveries worth $274 billion from 2023 to 2032, which is up 15% in both deliveries and expenditures from the same 10-year forecast a year ago. This year, surveyed operators reported new jet purchase plans on par with 2019 levels, with fleet addition rates doubling from last year’s reported intentions. Respondents’ feedback in this year’s survey aligns with industry reports of sold-out business jet production lines for the next several years.

The Middle East region is projected to experience a 3.8% growth rate over the next decade, surpassing Europe and North America, according to the latest Global Market Forecast published by the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus in its Dubai Airshow. The forecast predicts that by 2040, airlines in the Middle East will require an additional 3,020 aircraft to cover the region’s demand for passenger and freight services, bringing the total fleet count to 3,210 aircraft from a 2019 base of 1,300.

Airbus anticipates that Middle East air traffic will return to its 2019 level between the end of 2022 and mid-2024. On a global level, cargo operations are currently 9 per cent higher than before the crisis, and 18 per cent higher in the Middle East. This growth is attributed to a projected 2.3 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in GDP from now until 2040.

“This strong recovery is due to the region’s strategic location which is a vital economic, business and cultural connector between the East and the West. Government vision and strategic investment plans position aviation at the forefront of long-term planning in the Middle East. All of these factors will empower a return to the skies,” report said.

Airbus predicts that over the next two decades, demand for air travel will gradually move away from increasing the number of planes in service and towards the gradual retirement of older planes that don’t use as much fuel. They predict that by 2040, there will be around 39,000 passenger and cargo aircraft that need to be replaced, with the majority of them being the latest generation. This will mean that around 13% of the world’s commercial aircraft fleets will be new-generation aircraft by 2040, which will have a huge impact on CO2 emissions. Plus, aviation is good for the economy – it contributes around 4% of global GDP each year and supports around 90 million jobs.
