Located at the Maker Maxity Mall in the Bandra Kurla Complex, the 4,000-square-foot Tesla Experience Center marks a significant milestone in India’s automotive landscape. Tesla’s initial offering, the Model Y, has sparked major excitement among potential buyers, with bookings crossing 1,000 units plus.

In a momentous occasion for India’s electric mobility journey, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Tesla’s first-ever Experience Centre in the country at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. This event signifies Tesla’s formal entry into the Indian market, choosing Mumbai, Maharashtra, as its gateway.
The Tesla Experience Centre, spanning 4,000 sq.ft, is strategically located in the heart of Mumbai’s financial district, BKC. The state-of-the-art facility showcases Tesla’s cutting-edge electric vehicles, including the highly anticipated Model Y, and allows visitors to experience the brand’s advanced technology firsthand.

CM Fadnavis stated, “This isn’t just the opening of an Experience Centre, it’s a powerful message. Tesla has arrived, and it has chosen the right city and the right state: Mumbai, Maharashtra.”
Mumbai, renowned as India’s financial, commercial, and entertainment hub, is also emerging as a leading center for innovation and sustainability. Fadnavis is reminisced about his first experience riding in a Tesla during his visit to the United States in 2015. He shared his excitement about Tesla’s official entry into the Indian market and expressed confidence that the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability would resonate with the people of Mumbai and the rest of the country.
CM Fadnavis added, “I knew then that India needed this technology. It took time, but we are glad to see it finally here.”

The 2025 Tesla Model Y, known as the “Juniper” update, features a beautiful sleeker design, more futuristic front design with a full-width light bar as the new daytime running lights, replacing the traditional separate clusters. The low-profile headlights for better aerodynamics are now slimmer and integrated into the lower bumper, creating a cleaner look inspired by the Cybertruck’s futuristic aesthetic. The new Tesla Model 3 boasts an impressive drag coefficient of 0.219, showcasing a nearly 5% improvement over the previous generation’s 0.23. This reduction in drag contributes significantly to the Model 3’s enhanced efficiency and range, making it one of the most aerodynamic production cars ever made, even surpassing the Porsche Taycan’s 0.22 Cd.

The Tesla Model Y offers a refined interior with ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and a 15.4-inch touchscreen. Invisible speakers and acoustic glass provide premium audio, enhanced connectivity enables seamless Phone Key, call, and wireless network integration.

The reimagined cabin combines advanced features and premium materials for an elevated driving experience. The Model Y introduces perforated leather/leatherette upholstery and retains the traditional turning stalk. The Performance variant includes sports seats with improved side bolsters for optimal driving support.The Model Y boasts an 8-inch touchscreen for rear passengers, offering control over climate and entertainment, including games and movies. Power-recline second-row seats with fold-flat functionality maximize versatility, while Bluetooth connectivity ensures easy device integration for an elevated passenger experience.

The Model Y boasts a quieter cabin thanks to 360-degree acoustic glass, reducing noise reduction of 20 percent, extending the use of double-glazed glass from the windshield and front side glass to all windows. This upgrade significantly reduces external noise and enhances the overall driving experience.

The increased length of the Model Y translates into a larger load capacity, offering up to 2,138 litres with the rear seats folded down (powered). This is a significant improvement over the current generation’s 854 litres, even at minimum volume.

The Tesla Model Y offers two variants in India: the RWD with a 63 kWh battery providing a 500 km WLTP range, and the Long Range with an 83 kWh battery offering a 622 km range. Although a comprehensive range test couldn’t be performed, it was observed that the indicated range decreased gradually with regenerative braking and ‘standard’ drive mode active.
In India, the Model Y is equipped with the widely used CCS2 charging port instead of the US-standard NACS plug. Tesla claims that the Model Y can gain 267 km of driving range within just 15 minutes using its Superchargers, set to be installed in strategic locations across the country. The RWD Model Y supports fast charging up to 175 kW, while the Long Range can charge at up to 250 kW.

3rd party’s analysis of battery health data from 10 Tesla owners using the April 2025 diagnostic tool reveals an average battery degradation rate of 4.03% per 100,000 km. This indicates that Tesla batteries could maintain 70% capacity after approximately 740,000 km, highlighting their impressive longevity.
The analysis employs a linear regression model with statistical bootstrapping to enhance accuracy, considering that battery degradation isn’t strictly linear, with a typically faster decline in the initial years (<100,000 km). The model focuses on the long-term stabilized trend.
Most data samples are from US NMC batteries, emphasizing the need for further analysis of different battery types and regions for a comprehensive understanding of Tesla battery health. Nonetheless, these initial findings underscore Tesla’s commitment to producing high-performance, long-lasting batteries for its electric vehicles.

Real-world factors such as terrain, temperature, speed, and HVAC usage can significantly affect the battery range output. Highway driving at sustained high speeds or in sub-zero conditions, for example, may lead to a 15-30% decrease in range. It is essential to consider these variables when planning long trips and calculating the expected driving range for Tesla Model Y and other electric vehicles.

The Tesla Model Y’s latest refresh, known as Juniper, introduces a front bumper camera, offering a 180-degree scope of view. This camera enhances automatic assisted driving and advanced smart summon features, improving obstacle detection and navigation in complex environments.


Additionally, Tesla may potentially offer a front camera retrofit option for older Model Y vehicles, according to recent findings. This upgrade path could involve a new AI4 Autopilot computer variant with a connector for the front bumper camera, integrated LTE modem, and USB 3.0 port, indicating Tesla’s commitment to extending advanced features to existing owners.

When the driver appears drowsy or multiple lane departure warnings occur, the vehicle prompts the driver to engage the Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system for added assistance. This marks an important milestone for Tesla’s Indian operations, as the company opened its first showroom in Mumbai just a few months earlier. Priced between ₹59.89-67.89 lakh, the Model Y is now officially available in India, with Sarnaik’s delivery serving as a testament to the potential of EVs in the country.
